Wow!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I got this for my 21 year ancient son for Christmas. I was downstairs when he hooked it up and I could not believe the depth of sound this chair place out even at that distance! He is sooooo pleased with it. It’s a very large chair and not suitable for small children, but fantastic for the huge boys who still like to play games or even watch movies.
Fantastic chair, wires a bit of a hassle
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My son received this for Christmas last year. For the most part he has used it with his gaming system and ipod. The fact that it has to be plugged in, makes it a challenge to have it in the middle of the room. So when it’s not in use the plug has to sit on the floor next to it or right on it (no storage found for the power brick)….which means I have to be careful when vacuuming around the chair (for dread of sucking up the cords). The novelty of it has already worn off with my son and now it’s just a chair.
Two words, Immersive Encounter
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Got it as a X-Mas gift and wow. While recently playing Orange Box’s “Portal” a level where you must make multiple portals to accelerate yourself became an Nearly overwhelming encounter as the sound of your body building speed wooshes past your head. Call of Duty 4 on this chair keeps your heart pumping as explosions are everywhere causing the subwoofer to *thump* you into the belief you may really make a variation to the outcome of the war.
Pros: Soft, folds up out of the way, can be unforgivingly loud (YEA!), wireless (NICE!), very direct and closely restricted sound. Your ears and back can be near ready to explode from high levels of volume, but no one around you will notice that much as the sound is focused on the person in the chair.
Cons: Needs some kind of lumbar support for extended sessions of Warhawk and Halo 3 or basically any game played for 3 hours or more (maybe it is excellent, because it makes me go outside), keep forgetting to turn off the wireless x-mitter so my batteries are always DEAD (have rechargable spares)
FYI: The chair needs power, as that is the only wire you will need to plug in. Not light, not heavy, awkward to lift, needs a locking mechanism to hold the chair in a folded position while moving. I am 225 pounds, 6 feet tall and muscle build, and there are times I don’t feel like dragging this chair out of the closet. Unless this goes in a separate room for gaming, I don’t see too many people moving it too far from the TV.
Had a party recently for some College Football, this chair was an immediate hit with drunken 30 y/o men and women, as the screaming stadium crowd was all around!!!
Fantastic chair, once you get one that works
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I like this chair – fantastic for watching movies, listening to music, and playing video games. The sound is fantastic, and the chair is pretty comfortable. It lacks lumbar support in order to get that huge thumping bass in your lower back, which I reckon is worth it.
Getting a chair that works was a bit of a problem. I bought 2 chairs on amazon, and one came with a faulty right speaker. I called the company that makes the chairs (as instructed), and they promised to send out a new one. I called them a week later to see if they had sent it yet, and they hadn’t – but they promised it would happen straight away. This repeated once a week for 6 weeks. But finally the new chair came, and worked fantastic. They didn’t want the broken one back, so that part was simple.
So as long as you aren’t in a rush, I’d recommend getting this chair.
Bought it for the size, comfort level and price, but not for the wireless
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I owned the PY500 for about 2 weeks, but returned it because it was just too small for me. I’m 6 foot and needed something larger that would fit me “just right” for my vertical length. So, I place a few extra dollars down and upgraded to the PM440w, because it was the largest of the sound rocker chairs.
The feel and firmness of the chair is fantastic, the adjustable head rest is a real nice bonus (considering my height with the previous model I had) and the sound it produces gives the chair meaning behind its name: it really does rock! My only complaint with this chair is the wireless — it just doesn’t work. Sure, the manual says to switch/try the transmitter and the control panel on different channels, both the chair and the transmitter needs to be on the same channel to converse like a walkie talkie, but all I hear is static with just a hint of sound audio from my game. In my opinion, the so-called “wireless” functionality is worthless, because the manual says I have “too many radio waves” interfering and although it may be right because I wouldn’t know, it’s just too terrible it doesn’t work. it isn’t absolutely wireless, because the chair needs to get its power, which it does from the AC supply, but also the wireless transmitter takes 4 AAA batteries to give you “wireless” audio which in my opinion is just terrible design if the transmitter can’t be AC powered as well.
The previous reviewer, Chad, talks about the issue with the new car smell that accompanies the chair when you first buy it. I agree that the smell is a small strong, but it will fade within a couple days and absolutely gone with in 2 weeks. The craftsman ship of mine feels excellent, but I’m not smelling any burnt wood that Chad talked about and I’m not able ready to tear mine apart just to see what’s inside.
Overall, this chair is worth the price of $150, not $200, because the wireless audio won’t work for everyone. Perhaps it will work for you? Also, if you’re about 6 foot, which is average I would say, then you should buy this one over all the smaller ones. You’ll be grateful for the headrest and the height this model brings. The sound is booming too — can’t go incorrect with it as it sounds perfect.
Terrible Quality Workmanship and Customer Service
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This encounter is with the Pyramat/ Razor company product and customer service. What I bought was a Pyramat Sound Rocker PM 440-W, amplified wireless chair.
I really got nauseous and a terrible headache after playing it for several minutes. There was nearly like burnt wood, plastic, or a chemical used in the fabric causing this horrific smell. So I shined a flashlight into the bottom mesh area where the chair folds and I noticed that pieces of the wood had darker edges then that of the rest of the surfaces, which indicated to me that the wood used was possibly burnt.
I told Pyramat and sent them pictures of what I found. Unfortunately the camera would only focus on the outer fabric mesh area and not look through it like my eyes with a flashlight. So in order to get a better view I carefully dismantled the material of the chair and took pictures.
After looking closer into the chair, I was right in my initial theory. What I found is appalling to me. Much of the wood used in the construction of the chair is rumor has it that hurt by fire on the edges and smelled as such. Who knows, it may even be a chemical.
Further inspection showed quite a bit of wood filler was used to repair the chair/ hide defects and even a broken piece of the chair was split pretty terrible with several staples attempting to hold it together. There is also a loose piece of wood and two bricks just lying with brick stones and dust inside the chair. The printed circuit board inside was also ruined. Very terrible quality in craftsmanship!
I also used to work for an electronics department in a warehouse store and we sold many of the Pyramat PM440-W chairs and all that I have seen; including two displays and several returns have had the same insufferable odor. Customers have questioned what the smell was and I assumed it was just a normal new material odor. This was before I bought one and used it for myself, it became unbearable.
I formerly was sent a new chair and it had a defective zipper which was stitched closed about half way along it and it broke attempting to unzip it. The burnt smell was still present, not quite as terrible as the previous one, still causing me to have headaches after using it.
After speaking with Pyramat again they told me they acknowledged there was wood problem and they sent someone to the manufacturer to right the problem. They also said they would be sending me two UPS return marks and a new chair.
I waited nearly a month and called them back. A expressive told me that at least 9 other people were sent out new chairs with the same issue and had no further problems once they were sent new chairs. The expressive said management has chose to refund the price I paid for the chair because they didn’t reckon I would ever be pleased with the chair. And due to the cost of returning the chairs being more than I paid for it. The store was getting rid of its last one for cheap. But I guess quality does have a price in their eyes. I was then told to dispose of or keep the chair I currently have; my choice. So I believe if I were to have paid full price maybe I would have be treated differently.
I wish that Pyramat would have told me what the smell really was. Who knows it could be toxic for all I know. They never confirmed what it was.
Please see the pictures that I posted for a visual of some of the problems.
All I wanted was a new chair without the problems I had and I would have been satisfied. In my opinion Pyramat lacks quality and customer service and I will never buy or recommend their product to anyone.
Awsome
